How Does Internal Wall Insulation Work?

The goal of internal wall insulation is to improve a property’s overall energy efficiency and thermal performance. We use SuperFOIL insulation on the internal walls of properties built after 1920. Generally speaking, Sheep Wool will be used on properties built before 1920, though this will occur more rarely.

Thanks to its versatility, SuperFOIL can easily be applied to inside walls. Once installed, it acts as an effective radiant barrier able to redirect heat from all angles, keeping the interior of the home at a consistent temperature throughout all seasons. Sheep Wool protects older houses with untreated timbers by absorbing moisture that would cause condensation, all thanks to its hygroscopic qualities.

Why Get Your Internal Walls Insulated?

Installing internal wall insulation can be a great investment. From reduced drafts to capped energy bills, we’ve compiled a thorough list of the material and financial benefits internal wall insulation can bring!

Cap Your Energy Bills
As with our other insulation packages, internal wall boarding will lower overall expenditure on energy for heating and cooling your property. With less energy wasted on the same job, you can save hundreds of pounds on your energy bills, too!

Improve Temperature Regulation
The UK has been regularly bombarded with one-two combos of brutally hot summers and frigidly cold winters in recent years. Insulating your external walls with SuperFOIL or Sheeps Wool ensures your home is lovely and cool in the summer, while also keeping the family cosy all winter long.

Reduce Noise Pollution
Nobody likes noisy, inconsiderate neighbours, and no one wants to be one. Whether you want to keep harsh sounds inside or out, boarding up your walls with SuperFOIL insulation can dramatically reduce the effects of noise pollution. For soundproof internal wall insulation, call us today!

Reduce Condensation
Improved insulation keeps most of the surfaces in your home at a consistent temperature, so the chances of warm vapour coming into contact with cold internal walls (or vice versa) to produce condensation are absolutely minimised. No condensation on the walls means no mould growth and a much healthier environment for you and the family, as well as reduced colds, coughs and respiratory complaints such as asthma.

OUR LIFETIME INSULATION GUARANTEE

Internal Wall Insulation UK eco-friendly and sustainable products all come with a lifetime guarantee. The lifetime is against the building itself, so as long as your home stands, your SupaSoft, SuperFOIL, or Sheeps Wool loft insulation will be covered by our guarantee. Additionally, we offer a warranty backed by insurance from the IWA for a period of 5 years.

Internal Wall Insulation Installation FAQs

How thick should internal wall insulation be?

To get the ideal R-value – the measurement for the amount of heat diffused across a solid surface – it is recommended that insulation on the internal walls should have at least 60mm of thickness, though it can be boosted up to 100mm if necessary. SuperFOIL rolls are thin individually, meaning they can easily fit inside thin internal walls, but for thicker stone walls, they can be stacked up to form a solid yet breathable layer of insulation.

Unsure of how much insulation you’ll need? Don’t worry, our team can measure out your internal walls before beginning the installation.

Some homes may already have internal wall insulation installed, either as part of the initial construction or fitted by previous occupants. If this is the case with your property, chances are it’s working well and you’re feeling the many benefits of it – life’s good. However, inadequately installed wall insulation can be problematic. If you aren’t happy with the quality of your current wall insulation, we can either perform a full clear-out and replace it from scratch, or we can top it up with additional material to boost it up to the recommended thickness.

Yes, insulating internal walls can be a very worthwhile investment. For a start, the amount of money shaved off of heating bills thanks to reduced energy consumption is enough to convince anyone of the benefits. After installation, it won’t be long before the insulation will have effectively paid for itself. Since SuperFOIL wall insulation lasts for many decades, you will likely recuperate the initial cost of installation several times over by the time it eventually has to be replaced. When factored in with its other highlights, including minimised condensation and property protection, overall, multifoil wall insulation is great value for money!

The vast majority of homes throughout the UK do not have insulated internal walls, as there is no rule stating that you have to get them insulated. However, there can be many visible benefits to investing in this form of insulation, including reduced energy bills, no more draughts, improved temperature regulation, and much more. In other words, while you don’t have to get your internal walls insulated, it can massively improve your quality of life, and will most often pay for itself in the mid-term.

Most internal wall insulation should last the lifespan of your house, so it will not need routine replacements. As such, we offer a 60+ year guarantee for our eco-friendly insulation. In the event of lambswool being used for internal wall insulation in a pre-1920 property, rest assured that it also has amazingly high longevity. This is part of the reason why internal wall insulation can be such a worthwhile investment, as a single installation can effectively last a lifetime and the money saved on energy bills will eventually dwarf the amount paid for the initial installation.
